He also indicated that buildings along the ghats disposing sewage directly into the Ganga, dumping of debris in the Ganga and Varuna and encroachment on river

land are going to be targeted in the days to come.

The commissioner had finalised a 14-point agenda. He told TOI that all the 14 points would be reviewed in separate meetings with the officials of departments

concerned. He said the development work had to be implemented by the district magistrate and his subordinates but, to ensure coordination between all the

departments, he had finalised the scheduled for the review meetings.

It is worth mentioning here that immediately after assuming charge here a couple of months back, the commissioner had taken a serious note of traffic chaos

prevailing on almost all city roads. He had issued strict guidelines for improvement in traffic scene. Though, a few departments showed seriousness in implementing

the orders of the commissioner, departments mainly concerned with traffic regulation exercises could achieve nothing. The commissioner said he would also see

whether measures like providing proper service lanes at the work sites of flyovers and railway overbridge constructions sites had been ensured so far.

Ravi said despite every effort and instruction, he was receiving reports that a large number of buildings along the scenic ghats, especially hotels, were discharging

sewage directly into the Ganga. He said practices like dumping the debris of the old buildings that were being repaired or renovated near the ghats was also taking

place in the Ganga as well as the Varuna. He said those practices were not only worsening the condition of rivers but also enabling encroachers to grab river land

for illegal constructions. He said he had also issued instructions for surveying the river-bed of Varuna. He said he would review the progress made by the

departments concerned in that regard.

Issues related to security arrangements and improving facilities for devotees at Kashi Vishwanath Temple were reviewed by the commissioner on Wednesday. The

commissioner stressed on the need to ensure improvement in lighting arrangements in and around the temple and also to arrange for electric cables and wires
